The abortion debate is about controlling women

The conservative movement is neither pro-life nor anti-abortion. It’s about controlling women.
If it were pro-life, it wouldn’t so lustily support various forms of state murder such as capital punishment and wars of aggression.
If it were anti-abortion, it wouldn’t so strongly oppose contraception (which is Planned Parenthood’s main service) because fewer unwanted pregnancies means fewer abortions.
But contraception permits women to have sex for pleasure, which goes against the religious fundamentalists’ beliefs - be they Christian, Muslim or otherwise - that the primary role of women on this Earth is to be baby factories and then caregivers to those objects (whose quality of life becomes irrelevant after birth).

Mississippi's indifference to born children

"When I give food to the poor, I'm called a saint. When I ask why they are poor, I'm called a communist." -Archbishop Dom Helder Camara.

Supporters of Mississippi’s strict new anti-abortion law are breaking their arms patting themselves on the back, gushing with their pride at supposedly protecting the health andwell-being of the state’s unborn.

But what about the born?

Born children in the state have the highest poverty rate in the WORLD among children in developed countries.

Born children in the state have the highest infant mortality rate in the country

Born children in the state have the highest obesity rate in the country

Born children in the state have the highest illiteracy rate in the country (tied with New Mexico).

Born children in the state have thehighest teen pregnancy rate in the country (which I guess they want to preserve).

To politicians in Mississippi, the fate of the unborn is important.

Maybe one day, the most Christian state in the country will trouble itself to spend an ounce of energy worrying about children who are already born.

I don’t think I’ll hold my breath.

Fetuses aren't people, says Catholic group

In order to beat a malpractice suit, a Catholic hospital in Colorado made the astonishing (for them) contention that a fetus is not a person.

Raw Story reports: According to the Colorado Independent, in the death of a 31-year-old woman carrying twin fetuses, Catholic Health Initiatives’ attorneys argued that in cases of wrongful death, the term “person” only applies to individuals born alive, and not to those who die in utero.
