Those darn 11 year old teenagers!

A followup to yesterday's post about media hacks...

The Post-Star ran different articles yesterday and today about an 11 year old girl from Galway who appeared on the TV show Jeopardy!

In both cases, the headline referred to the 11 year old as a 'teen.'

While the prominence given to the Casey Anthony garbage (lead story on the front page for the 2nd day in a row today) doesn't inspire confidence in the 'news judgement [sic]' of the daily's 'professional editor,' repeatedly referring to an 11 year old as a teenager doesn't speak highly of the attention to detail provided by our region's most prominent news institution.

The working (?) poor

Our esteemed state legislators in New York won't touch their salary until they grow some stones, defy their misleaders, do their job and actually pass a budget... one that was due nearly four months ago.

Until then, The Times-Union reports that the poor lot will have to survive on a paltry per diem of a meager $171 a day. How will they manage?!

Dereliction of duty in Albany, pt. 2491

Blogger Bob at Planet Albany gave an account of what our esteemed Assembly members were working on today, which culminated with a discussion "so boring it drove [him] out of the chamber."

No one will be shocked to learn that you will NOT find in his account any mention of the Assembly working on what's most needed: the now-six weeks late state budget... a delay which risks having effects nearly as catastrophic as the cuts the delinquent lawmakers are avoiding.

MLS website disaster

For a league run almost entirely by PR hacks, it's little surprise that Major League Soccer tries to spin and control information more tightly than the Kremlin. In that context, the recent launch of its new website was a PR catastrophe for a league hoping to capitalize on a World Cup year. The Fake Sigi blog has a revealing analysis of the clusterf**k. Perhaps the most revealing thing of all is that despite the length of the piece, there were still screwups he left out.
