I wonder...

... why elections and politics seem to bring out the worst in otherwise decent people?

The law of enhancing minor differences.

Schumer & D'Amato weren't really all that different in their voting records on 95% of the issues, though they needed something to draw upon something to not only make themselves better but to make the other guy look bad.

If you're talking about the recent conversation between yourself and Bob Conner, I'd attribute that to the unique blend of politics and the toxic alacrity of the internet.

I read all my posts and comments to one of the chickens. If the bird doesn't drop dead from fear, fury or embarrassment, I hit send.

Mark, I'm not referring to any one particular incident.

My natural state is conscientious but fairly laid back. But I find it harder to not be sucked into the morass. It's the cumulative effect of the toxicity you refer to that's wearing me down.

It makes me question whether it's still possible to have intelligent discussions on serious issues with anything more that a small handful of people. And what's the point of having that discussion among a tiny minority if it's going to continually be drowned out by the cacophony of grandstanding. Intellectually I understand. Emotionally, I'm starting to wonder why bother.

[Bob C, before you misinterpret to the point of outrage again, the above characterization (cacophony of grandstanding, morass, toxic) is referring to the general state of discourse in the country and is not a comment on you or your blog in particular.]
